Pioneers of Soviet Computing

Happy Anniversary, Sputnik!

Submitted by Anne Fitzpatrick on Fri, 2007-10-05 11:51.
50 Years ago this week Sputnik roared into the cosmos and onto the world political stage. On October 5, 1957 the USSR changed both the course of history and the path of science and technology research and development, especially in the West. While Sputnik itself was a remarkable accomplishment, it's lasting influence is still felt. Computerworld published a very good piece on Sputnik's influence on computing and the internet. Read it here. The Washington Post also featured a short video clip on Sputnik here.
